• Adobe Reader does not open PDF files.  This seems to be an erratic problem with newer PDF files under XP.  Older files such as the irs.gov 1040 forms work fine but newer complied PDF's won't open.  The only suggestion we have is to uninstall the newer version of the Acrobat Reader, locate an older version such as 4.xx and install it.
• Unable to format NTFS during XP installation. What a PIA this is!  Make sure the computer is new enough for XP!  
  You may end up formatting and installing Win9x first. . . but try this: Use a Win98 boot disk with Fdisk on the floppy and delete all partitions.  Do not format the drive, just boot to the XP CD.
  You will of course, lose everything on the disk!
